The town of Moshi, located on the lower slopes of Mount Kilimanjaro, is the center of coffee production in Tanzania. The area around the town and the slopes of Kilimanjaro are full with coffee plantations. Moshi is well known for the seasonal coffee auctions, when international buyers bid for the wholesale Arabica coffee, an event definitively worth a visit.
Other sites worth a visit in Moshi and its vicinity are the coffee roasting factory, where you can learn more about the coffee growing and production, sugar plantations and the crops and coffee farms. You can also have a cultural trip to the nearby tribes and villages, learning more about the local Chagga and Maasai tribes.
All of this sites are the reason to stay in Moshi for an additional day or two after your climb to Mount Kilimanjaro. Kilimanjaro is also the main reason tourist come to Moshi, as the town is the main way to the most routes up to the mountains peak.
